Tá ríméad ar Cheantar Scannán UNESCO na Gaillimhe SONG OF GRANITE a thaispeáint, chun ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar Sheachtain na Gaeilge. Arna stiúradh ag Pat Collins, scannanóir Éireannach a bhfuil an-aird air, is scannán é SONG OF GRANITE a chuireann saol an amhránaí sean-nós mór le rá Joe Heaney i láthair. Ba é Joe Heaney duine de laochra na hamhránaíochta traidisiúnta Gaelaí, agus ba dhuine diamhair agus cumasach é. Rugadh i gConamara i 1919 é, agus múnlaíodh é de réir na miotas, an cheoil agus na n-amhrán a bhí mar chuid lárnach dá thógáil. Ón am ar cailleadh é in Seattle i mí Bealtaine 1984, bhí gáir mhór leis ar fud an domhain mar dhuine de na pearsana ba thábhachtaí i gceol traidisiúnta na hÉireann. Bhí tionchar ollmhór ag an raith a bhí aige mar amhranaí cáiliúil ar a shaol phearsanta, áfach. Roghnaíodh an scannán mar iontráil oifigiúil na hÉireann sa chatagóir Scannán i dTeanga Iasachta do na Oscars 2018.

To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, Galway UNESCO City of Film is delighted to screen SONG OF GRANITE. Directed by acclaimed Irish filmmaker Pat Collins, SONG OF GRANITE presents the life story of legendary seannós singer Joe Heaney. Joe Heaney was one of the greats of traditional Irish singing. Born in Connemara in 1919, he was shaped by the myths, music, and songs of his upbringing. By the time of his death in Seattle in May 1984, he was internationally acclaimed as one of the most important figures in Irish traditional music though his life as a gifted artist came at a personal cost. The film was selected as Ireland’s official submission for the Foreign Language Film Oscars 2018.
